The final day of the Kop

The Kop's last stand is all over in 1994. After the match against Norwich City the fans have the ultimate 'stay-behind'. They simply did not want to go home. The police and stewards remained patient. Everyone realised what an historic day it was. Image copyright of Liverpool Daily Post and Echo.

The Kop's Last Stand

Liverpool football club's legendary Kop was remembered ten years after its 'Last Stand' in an exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool Life from 28 May to 19 September 2004.

The original all-standing Kop, which stood from 1906 to 1994, played a key part in the history of the soccer team during its glory years when players captured top trophies. The Kop's Last Stand told the fascinating story of the stand where thousands of fans jostled and swayed as they sang, chanted, cheered and jeered. It focuses on the highs and lows experienced on its hallowed terraces.

The Earliest of the 50 images on display dated from about 1906 while another showed the Kop before its roof was built in 1928. The championship years from 1960 look at the role of supporters and their relationship with the Kop. Well-known characters such as top-hatted Dr Fun and John Garner are featured.

John scored the last "goal" before the original Kop was pulled down in 1994. He ran on to the pitch after the final whistle and kicked the ball into the net. The boot he was wearing is on display at the exhibition.

Fencing is seen being put up in 1977 - it remained until the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989. The Kop was demolished five years later to be replaced by an all-seater. Liverpool greats include early stars Don Mackinlay and Harry Chambers, later heroes Kevin Keegan and Steve Heighway along with legendary managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.

The Kop's Last Stand is based on I am a Liverpudlian and I come from the Spion Kop by Chris McLoughlin (Trinity Mirror Sport Media, price £20). The exhibition features Liverpool Daily Post & Echo archive photos and exhibits loaned by Liverpool FC Museum including programmes, banners and fan memorabilia.

Chelsea VS Liverpool

I am worrying about Liverpool way in UEFA Champion's League. We had a lot of mistakes in defensive system, and we also had a terrible attacking system. We were in pressure at Stamford Brige atmosphere. At first, We believed that we can control the game but our players did not go the way we thought it was going to be. We often passed the ball into Chelsea's possession. Chelsea's inspiration is the key of the change, their fan's voice was surrounded them.

Until about 29th minutes, when Chelsea's defender Cavalho intercepted from Liverpool while they were attacking Chelsea. He passed the ball through Liverpool's midfielder and defender to Didier Drogba. Drogba was too strong for Daniel Agger, so he passed the ball to penalty's area assisted Joe Cole who was running from his side to scored this goal. Chelsea chelsea often didn't miss the chance they had. They were punished Liverpool with this goal.

After that, the Red Machine started to work but they still had many mistake the both attacking and defending. Rafael Benitez, Liverpool's manager sent Jermaine Pennant to the pitch but it was too late to change anything. Chelsea was seems like satisfied this score. That was decrease Liverpool's chance to score because they step backward to his side for just defending Liverpool.

It could be a hard work for everyone in Liverpool's team in the next game at Anfield. I hope Rafael Benitez could not have a mistake on the squad like the previous game. I want to see Liverpool in the final round.

I Am A Liverpool's Fan

The Kop in Thailand
I am a Liverpool fan in Thailand. I started to watch football since I was about 12 years old, approximately 1998. I love Liverpool because my daddy. He suggested me to find something I like and interested. He taught me about basic rule of football such as offside, foul, tackle, how to get penalty kick etc. After that, I watch English premiere league every week. My daddy's favourite team is Liverpool, so I decided to cheer this team. Michael Owen is a first my favourite Liverpool's player, he has wonderful talent and incredible speed. He also a great scorer with just 18 years old. I wanted Liverpool to success in their league but they never done it until now. However my daddy informed me that they can did it since the league named "Division 1"

Now, I am 19 years old. Liverpool still cannot go to the first ranking in English Premiere League. Michael Owen went to Real Madrid in Spain about 2-3 years ago. Then, Steven Gerrard had becomes an important player of the middle area in Liverpool team. In comparison, Steven Gerrard is a essential element or main engine of the red machine. He is a person who control the tempo of the game. He has a incredible powerful shot. His shot always help Liverpool in emergency situation. For example, the final game of F.A. Cup last year with Charlton. Liverpool almost defeated in at 3-2 but while injured time his shot lead Liverpool to the penalty and also beat Charlton.

My favourite Liverpool's player changes from Owen to Gerrard. I think Gerrard can changes the game and always help Liverpool. He lead Liverpool to the Champion of UEFA Champion League in the last 2 years and now he is going to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in semi-final round. I hope Liverpool will be the champion again.

Football Future

I have decided to write an article today about transfers in Football or Soccer maybe to those living in America. You see I recently learned today that Owen Hargreaves will be on his way to Manchester United in the summer for a sum thought to be around £17 million. I do rate Owen Hargreaves very highly and feel he has done a fantastic job for England in their campaigns under Sven Goran Erikkson but is he worth £17million.

I believe he is because he is a great central midfielder and lets just say we have seen worser players bought for more money particularly by Manchester United. Can anyone say Juan Sebastian Veron my point exactly. On top of this I have been reading alot of transfer rumours in Football lately and one in particular is Didier Drogba being linked with A.C. Milan for £28 million again questionable but i do agree he is worth the money. The reason I believe this is that he has finished the season top goalscorer in the Premiership and was arguarbly the difference in the F.A. Cup final against Manchester United scoring the winning goal.

If however he was already at A.C. Milan and he was top goalscorer in Serie A with 20 goals in the league I wouldn't agree. You see the English Premier League for me is undoubtedly the most difficult league in the world to play in. Having said that Didier Drogba has proved his worth after being bought for £24 million a sum that many people including myself felt was far too steep for a player many people had not even heard of. After this my conclusion is how big will transfers go Gerrard, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka will anybody ever break that £48 million mark made by Zinedine Zidane although I don't believe any of these players are better then Zinedine Zidane. I do believe this will happen the only question really is when so if you have any thoughts or comments on this please come and share them with me at http:footballmyreview.blogspot.com who do you believe will break that £48 million benchmark set by one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the stage.
